Ali Campbell has one of the UK’s most distinctive and recognisable voices.
As lead singer with the world-renowned group UB40, Ali Campbell has sold over 60 million records worldwide, toured across the globe, notched up four number No. 1 world-wide singles, over 40 Top 40 UK singles, released 23 studio albums and received an Ivor Novello Award for International Achievement. At the 2006 Grammy awards UB40 were nominated for best reggae album, for their most recent album, released last year.
They hold the all time attendance record in South Africa for concerts and recently headlined Live Earth from South Africa and have in the last few months, completed a tour of the west coast of the USA and appeared on America’s Got Talent as the guest artists on the finale, which had a TV audience of 70 million people.
They are the most widely toured band in the music industry today, playing to capacity arenas globally. At the end of this year, they embark on their 20th sold out UK Arena tour which takes in all major cities in Britain and once again are playing 3 sold out dates at the Ahoy Stadium in Holland, before touring in Australia and New Zealand in February.
A whole generation has grown up listening to Ali’s infectious vocals on classics like ‘One in Ten’ ‘Red Red Wine’, ‘Don’t Break My Heart’ and ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love’. Ali has stayed true to his love of reggae and its ongoing capacity for innovation. The music that first inspired him has never lost its edge or vitality, and sharing this belief, there are still eight original band members of UB40 performing today.
Ali has recently released a new solo album, Running Free, featuring a host of guest artist, which has just entered the top ten in the Uk charts in it’s first week of release and is now set to do the same internationally.
