Is Britain really broke?

Britain in 2008 is really feeling the pinch.
The cost of living is rising fast - everything from staple foods like bread, rice and pasta - to petrol at the pumps is costing us more. The average gas and electricity bills now stand at around £1,200 a year and are expected to rise further. The housing market is stalling and getting a mortgage is tougher. People are really starting to struggle.
But are things really as bad as we think? Is this a repeat of the late 1970s or early 1990s? Is Britain really broke?
In September, Century Radio will investigate whether the country really is in dire straits - or if it's all an over-reaction.
We've signed Martin Lewis from www.moneysavingexpert.com to explain just what the credit crunch is and show you what you can do to survive it.
But we want to hear from YOU. Are you struggling to make ends meet? If you're a family, tell us how difficult it is getting to feed and clothe everyone.
