Speeding Fines: Your Responses

Speed Camera
Speed Camera

We brought you news that revenue from speeding tickets has almost quadrupled to £200 a minute since Labour came to power.

Is Labour using speeding tickets just to raise money rather than making our roads safer?

Here are your responses...

Speed cameras do slow people down, however there are way too many on our roads. Cameras should only be used in accident blackspots and near schools where i live there are 4 cameras on a 3 mile road which has rounabouts every 200 - 300 yds so you can't go over 30mph anyway..

I think money raised from speed cameras should be used for charitys in the region the cameras are located like Sheffield chidrens hospital Yorkshire air ambulance and other good causes just like they do in America.

Having apparently just been done at 39 in 30 zone, at a time i wasnt there on a road without a speed camera,i am dubious about them. An inspector i spoke to advised me to plead not guilty, but i am mistrustful of the police, having had several nasty experiences in the past few months with police, i thought it was young drivers they are looking at, but i've been driving since 77, so i think i've gained some experience in that time.It seems all about figures to them and revenue, not really about safety. Speed cameras are set up to be unobtrusive, and usually at nasty spots to catch you out, but only work really on strangers to the areas, as locals know the hot spots, so they are usually an unwelcome gift to visitors to an area. This is not to say they should be speeding, but it only takes 1mph over the speed limit to trigger them and your driving career is ruined. Big Brother rules ok!!! sure

It's just a pity the police would not keep to date wiv the car crime and put away them speed cameras away....i pay lots of poll-tax to keep the police in a job........

All labour Governments seem to use any easy way to raise money and the motorist is always the easiest target. They seem to lose all human rights to fairness once behind the wheel.

The project of extracting money from the speed cameras has been in place now since 2001 and whilst the amount of monies raised has increased to this vast amount the reduction in road deaths has not matched the total investment of man hours and prosecutions. The predictions to 'slash' road deaths has not occurred. Traffic cops have been reduced drink drive has increased. The leader of this project should be sacked and a new leader brought in to take charge. They should target those who are most likely to kill and injure and not every driver doing a couple of miles over the limit.

There is always situations where speed camera's are of benefit, accident hot spots, approaches to schools etc and areas of constant complaint of speeding vehicles. However, I cannot see the safety issue involved where motorists are caught accelerating too early approaching an higher speed limit, especially out of built up areas. If the statement said"speed camera's are there to enforce the law" then no-one could argue. But to say they are there to save lives is not true.

Just another stealth tax. We are a big brother experiment. No government just puppets/mupperts only short of strings. God help us!
