All about Alex James...

Born and bred in the leafy suburbs of Yorkshire I arrived in Manchester in 1999 to study English and History at university and spent more time working for the student radio station Fuse FM than I did in lectures. After graduating I stopped eating Pot Noodles and worked for The University of Manchester for two years before making the leap into radio.

Before working for Century and Real Radio I was on-air with several other stations including Wish FM, Galaxy and XFM Manchester (where with the help of a nice cup of coffee I succefully managed to take the station off air).

During my time on air I have been lucky enough to interview some brilliantly varied people and bands ranging from Sugababes all the way through to My Chemical Romance. I've written articles for several newspapers and magazines as well as interviewing and profiling some very cool people including the rather lovely Hollywood actress Michelle Williams, Disney Pixar maestro Jon Lasseter, through to radio legend Mark Goodier and even an international ‘exotic' film Star!!

Inspired by my radio heroes Moyles, Mills and Mayo, I love trying to think of ways to produce entertaining and relevant radio and, shockingly, sometimes it works. Sometimes it's even funny (or so my mum tells me). I love presenting every show and this year even managed to get shortlisted for Channel 4's On-Air Radio Award, unfortunately there was obviously someone who was better than me!

I love all kinds of music and get far too excited about listening to, playing and talking about new tunes. The rest of the time I do normal-Kate-Winslet-type things like watching films, The X Factor (Cowell is a god-among-men), 24 and The West Wing, drinking Jack Daniels, trying to improve my culinary skills, playing Splinter Cell and spending an unhealthy amount of time on the internet following the daily lives of celebrities.

I am on a personal crusade to be fitter and faster than my older brother and this year I completed my sixth 10k run. Winning this battle means going to the gym pretty much every day and I've even dabbled in rock-climbing and snowboarding with varying degrees of success! I think my brother might win this battle cos he has to constantly run around after my beautiful twin nieces Lily and Daisy, two little monsters with more energy than a crate of Red Bull!
