The 80s Anthem

Wham's Freedom, or Duran Duran's Wild Boys?
Adam and the Ants' Prince Charming, or The Police's Message in a Bottle?
Michael Jackson's Thriller, or Frankie Goes to Hollywood's Relax?
Madonna's Papa Don't Preach, or Madness' Baggy Trousers?

OUR PRESENTERS SAY:
Clive: Visage's Fade to Grey: It was just one of those songs that set the pace for electro pop at the start of the era. It was on Ashes to Ashes recently and it’s eerie synth sounded amazing. It has never lost it’s charm.
Parksy: Sugarhill Gang's Rapper’s Delight: This is one of my fave dance tunes from the 80’s. It’s hard to believe this song is so old. It came out in December 1979 and was a massive hit in 1980, it still sounds so fresh even today. The ultimate party tune that just gets you moving, I think it was also the first ever rap hit. I love it!
Jo: Ultravox's Vienna: The track sums up the whole electronic/new romantic scene of the early 80's, the video was fabulous with Midge Ure wearing that mac with the collar turned up, it was done so cheaply too, but it worked, an amazing song which was robbed from the top spot in February 1981 by none other than Joe Dolce shuddup ya face!! Biggest crime in music chart history! Powerful emotional song which I love plus it was at no.2 on my 16th birthday, so yeah love it!
Jude: Robert Palmer's Addicted to Love: I always wanted to be one of those girls in the video...not to necessarily jiggle my bits for the world to see but they were so moody and glamorous! The track still sounds great in 2008 and instantly takes me back to a time of no pressures, no bills, no mortgages and lots of blue mascara!
Salty: Queen's Hammer to Fall: Perfect for a bit of air guitar and a classic rock song! Also love the Power of Love by Huey Lewis as it just takes me back to the 80's...Back to the Future and all that!
Debbie: Rio by Duran Duran.....I just wanted to be on ‘that boat’ in the video. This was when my love affair with ‘the boys’ started and lasted right the way through the 80’s. I even put them in order of who was most attractive....Nick Rhodes, John Taylor, Simon Le Bon, Roger Taylor and finally Andy Taylor....oh those were the days, all those frilly shirts, backcombed hair and hairspray...and that was just the boys!
